Housing History of the Central District
0min 57secs | English | Africatown Media Productions
Black people have called the Central District of Seattle home for nearly 140 years and despite systematic efforts for incarceration and gentrification, the community persists. The demand exhibited by the community around the Liberty Bank Building on November 1, 2018, demonstrates that those who were displaced from the Central District due to gentrification want to come back home. Also that the needs for affordable housing far exceed demand. We encourage you that are passionate about the cause of affordable housing in our community to text your name and the word HOME to 206 309 6324 and join the Africatown Housing Action Alerts to stay informed about upcoming opportunities for you to be part of the change you want to see.
