Africatown Media inks deal with Ghana’s Afrochella Music Festival



Seattle, WA - Africatown Media has today announced a marketing partnership with the Afrochella Festival 2019 in Accra, Ghana to raise awareness of the festival in the Seattle area and drive ticket and tour packages.


Afrochella, is a week long celebration of African music and culture that occurs annually during the last week of December. This year Afrochella will occur December 26th - January 4 (2020) at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.





In only its third year, Afrochella has become a rapidly growing destination for African American’s seeking to connect with the continent and celebrate its culture, music, and history at the same time. Afrochella has also become a hot spot for Black celebrities who are more and more turning to African destinations to vacation as opposed to traditional European ports of call.


Africatown Media will work with Afrochella to raise awareness around Afrochella 2019 among those in the African American and African Diaspora communities in Seattle and beyond via the use of Africatown Media's digital platforms as well as community outreach as at numerous upcoming events.





According to Omari Salisbury of Africatown Media, this partnership creates a massive opportunity to change the narrative that many African American’s hold regarding Africa that has been mostly rooted in systemic media bias against the continent.


“Afrochella is another opportunity that allows African American’s to see the greatness of Africa first hand and to break the negative narratives and stereotypes about Africa that are prevalent in our communities.. What better way to experience Ghana and West Africa than a week long celebration of culture, art, and music” said Salisbury.





Recently, Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, declared 2019 as the Year of the Return of the African Diaspora, encouraging anyone of African descent to make the journey back home as part of their birth-right. Ghana is the first African country to allow people of African descent from all over the world “to live and to come and go into and from the country without let or hindrance.”




According to Afrochella founder, Abdul Abdullah, partnering with Africatown Media for marketing and awareness in the Seattle area makes perfect sense and is part of Afrochella’s larger strategy that seeks to maximize relationships with organizations like Africatown Media across America whose audience has a high affinity for the African continent and have the desire and financial means to travel to Ghana and beyond.
